2015 Africa Cup of Nations

The Leone Stars will play Swaziland in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations second round qualifiers on 16-18 May (away) and 30 May - 1 Jun (home).    

The winners will then play the Seychelles in the third round games in late July and early August.

 

Second Round Fixtures:

  • 16-18/05/14: Swaziland v Sierra Leone
  • 30-31/05-01/06/14: Sierra Leone v Swaziland

Third Round Fixtures:

  • 18-20/07/14: Swaziland or Sierra Leone v Gambia* or Seychelles
  • 01-03/08/14: Gambia* or Seychelles v Swaziland or Sierra Leone

(* UPDATE: Following the draw, Gambia received a 2 year ban from CAF)

 

Final Group Qualification Stage 

The winner of the Leone Stars second / third round qualification games will then be placed in Group D for the final qualification stage - along with Ivory Coast, Cameroon and DR Congo - for games in September, October and November.

  • 05-06/09/14: Ivory Coast v qualifier
  • 05-06/09/14: DR Congo v Cameroon

 

  • 10/09/14: Cameroon v Ivory Coast
  • 10/09/14: qualifier v DR Congo

 

  • 10-11/10/14: DR Congo v Ivory Coast
  • 10-11/10/14: qualifier v Cameroon

 

  • 15/10/14: Ivory Coast v DR Congo
  • 15/10/14: Cameroon v qualifier

 

  • 14-15/11/14: qualifier v Ivory Coast
  • 14-15/11/14: Cameroon v DR Congo

 

  • 19/11/14: Ivory Coast v Cameroon
  • 19/11/14: DR Congo v qualifier

 

 Following those games, the final draw for AFCON 2015 will then be held in Rabat on 26 November.   Group winners and the runner-up of each qualification group, plus the third-best team will join hosts Morocco for the final tournament.

 

AFCON 2015 - Finals

The 30th edition of 2015 Africa Cup of Nations will be played in Morocco from 17 January until 8 February 2015.

The location of the games is as follows:

  • GROUP A will be based in Marrakech.  The city will also host the opening match.
  • GROUP B will be based in Agadir.
  • Rabat will host GROUP C and the AFCON 2015 final.
  • GROUP D will be based in Tangier.

About Coach McKinstry

Coach McKinstry is a UEFA Pro Licensed Football Coach.  He is currently Head Coach of the Uganda National Team - the Uganda 'Cranes'.   By December 2019, after only 3 months in charge, Uganda had won CECAFA 2019; were sitting top of their AFCON qualification group; and had secured 9 wins and 1 draw from 10 games.

He was International Manager and Head Coach of the Rwanda National Football Team (2015-16). Within just 17 months he led Rwanda to a number of highs - including their first ever appearance in the knockout stages of a major international tournament (Quarter-finals of CHAN, Jan 2016) and finished runner-up in CECAFA (Dec 2105), being named 'Coach of the Tournament' for his efforts. 

He was Head Coach of the Sierra Leone National Men's Football team (2013-14). Within just over a year, he had led Sierra Leone to their highest ever FIFA World and African rankings - 7th in Africa and 50th in the World (August 2014).  He was Head Coach of Saif Sporting Club, Bangladesh Premier League (2018-19); and FK Kauno Zalgiris, Lithuanian A-Lyga (2017-18).  He is a European (UEFA), American (NSCAA) and university qualified football coach. 

Coach McKinstry is a member of 'Common Goal'. Together members seek to support high-impact organisations that harness the power of football to advance the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
